“EWS gave me the opportunity to touch the lives of thousands of smallholder farmers from far-flung areas who are working extra hard to better their lives.”
Robert is the Knowledge Transfer Manager of East-West Seed Philippines, working to give vegetables extension and advisory services to farmers all over the country.
It was the drive to put into real-world practice what he learned from the academe and research that brought Robert to East-West Seed 15 years ago. He wanted to see how private sectors can help the government in bringing agricultural training and extension services effectively and efficiently to the farmers who need them most.
He drove the company to handle projects -- no matter how small the may be, as long as they are significant to farmers-- in unexplored areas in the country. This resulted to East-West Seed having a solid track record in giving training and extension services.
Years later, the company, together with its partners from local and international organizations, was able to implement numerous extension and advisory projects to different farming communities in the country. Robert proudly shares that East West Seed Philippines has also become the “partner of choice” for horticultural training and extension services.
Looking back, Robert shares that all of these became possible because of the “highly passionate professionals who are helping improve the lives of smallholder farmers” that he has worked with.
