Jedeliza Ferrater

Story

“People within the company are authentic in their desire to serve the farmers. It's a mission embedded in everyone's mindset that's unique to EWS as a seed company. Because of this, people want to collaborate with each other to come up with solutions to farmers' concerns. This culture of one passionate team has benefited the farmers and the company as well.”

Jed is one of East-West Seed’s ‘Plant Doctors’. She diagnoses plant diseases, identifies pests, and recommends solutions to the farmers.

Jed’s passion for research has led her to travel across continents of Europe, North America, and Asia. While taking her PhD in the Wageningen University she was tapped by East-West Seed to work on insect-plant resistance projects of the company in the Netherlands. Although hesitant at first because she had no background in vegetable research, her fear of the unfamiliar eventually dissolved because of the trust and support she got from the East-West Seed team. She took the leap, and, as they say, the rest is history.

Jed currently leads the Plant Pathology and Entomology teams of East-West Seed in the Philippines. She is also passionate about integrated pest management and shares her expertise by doing extension work for farmers in different parts of the country.
